The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, hosted by England this summer, has expanded to a 12-team tournament, making the competition very high stakes to clinch the prestigious trophy.
The inaugural edition of the tournament in 2009 was won by the hosting nation, England, and has been held every two years, except for the Covid pandemic that postponed the 2020 edition to 2023.

As the hosting nation of the tournament, England earned direct qualification. The other highest-ranking teams from the previous edition of the T20 World Cup (in 2024) secured spots, including Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and the West Indies.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan, placed in the first eight positions of the ICC Women’s T20 rankings,earned qualification into the tournaments.
The remaining four spots were secured by the top two teams from Group A (Bangladesh and Ireland) and Group B (Netherlands and Scotland) of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier in January and February.
Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Tournament Structure and Format
The 20-over tournament features 12 teams placed in two different groups. There are six teams in Group A and six in Group B.
Out of these 12 teams, only four will progress into the knockouts. In simpler terms, the top two teams from Group A and Group B will qualify for the semi-finals, with the final scheduled to be played at Lord’s on July 05 (Sunday).
